Analysis

  1. Overview:  For this module, you will be using passages from A Short Guide to Writing about Art.  This module is intended to deepen your understanding of writing about art.  It will deal specifically with analysis.  According to Barnet, “An analysis is, literally, a separating into parts in order to understand the whole.”  By dissecting a work of art into parts such as its source, materials, size, context, etc., the writer can gain a better understanding of the work and by bringing these parts back together (synthesis), the writer may enlighten his audience to a possible interpretation of the work.
