The following questions are designed to evaluate your understanding of the concepts presented in Chapter One of Ben & Jerry's Double Dip.

Please answer each question completely and use proper grammar and spelling.

1. In your own words, write a paragraph or two in response to the following questions. Be sure to explain your answers.
  • What does the concept of "values-led" business mean?
  • How is it different from what Ben & Jerry describe as "cause-related" business?
  • What do they suggest are the potential rewards of being a values-led business?
  • What trade-offs (opportunity costs) might there be for a values-led business.

2. Identify 3 - 5 products or services that you are loyal to. For each product or service that you identify, give a brief explanation as to why you are loyal. What is this loyalty based on? Price? Quality? The company's ethics? Peer pressure?

3. From the products that you listed in part 2 above, do a web search and explore the official website of the manufacturer of that product. For each company website that you explore, answer the following questions:

  • What is the URL of the company's website?
  • From exploring the company's website, can you find any information that this company practices the concept values-led business? Explain.
  • Can you find any examples that this company practices cause-related marketing? Explain.
  • If you cannot find any example of values-led or cause-related marketing on the company website, why do you suppose this is the case? Explain.
