Grade	Content	Grammar, Mechanics, and Punctuation
Excellent	All three elements are present: mission statement and two paragraphs. The paragraphs address the assignment as given (does not go off topic). The support provided for each paragraph is specific, logical, and based on experience or the reading. 20 points	No errors of grammar, mechanics, and punctuation are present. Grammar-- how words relate to each other in a sentence, such as subject and verb agreement. Mechanics-- issues of correctness, such as abbreviations and capitalization. Punctuation-- issues of punctuation, such as correct use of commas and apostrophes. 10 points
Good	All three elements are present: mission statement and two paragraphs. The paragraphs address the assignment but may be lacking a bit in quantity of support. Or, some of the support given is general, rather than specific examples from experience. 18 points	One or two errors of grammar, mechanics, and punctuation may be present. 9 points
Acceptable	All three elements are present: mission statement and two paragraphs. The paragraphs address the assignment for the most part, but one paragraph may go slightly off topic. Most of the support is general, rather than specific, real-life examples. 16 points	Three or four errors of grammar, mechanics, and punctuation may be present. 8 points
