Mission Statements

In this module you will learn about mission statements and how they impact the economic and social decisions of businesses.
According to Websters, a mission is a "task or function assigned or undertaken; an official assignment."

With this definition in mind, one can see that the nature of the word mission suggests that to go on a mission is to be purposeful. Certainly, when companies draft mission statements, they are expressing their business purposes. By reading Ben & Jerry's mission statement, one learns a lot about the philosophy of the company. It also gives a platform from which to analyze this company and others to see how they follow their stated missions.

Generally, a mission statement is a short (usually a paragraph or less) expression of how a company plans to conduct its business.

While it may seem easy to write something so short, imagine trying to sum up your philosophy for running a business (or your life) in a few sentences.

Be sure to check the pace chart to see what you need to accomplish this week.
