Clovis Anytime
Learning (CAL Online) is Clovis Unified School District’s online
high school program, which began in June 2001.
Our mission is:
“to
provide standards-based online courses and resources through the use
of interactive and high quality technology that empowers all
students and teachers to be lifelong learners.”
The CAL Online vision is to:
-
Provide all teachers
with online resources of activities, lessons and units that can
be integrated into the regular face-to-face classroom.
-
Provide students with online
resources that they can use from home for learning and for
re-learning important concepts.
- Provide
online courses for students who need more flexibility in their
course schedule or who prefer this alternative for learning.
CAL
Online was developed as the result of Superintendent Walt Buster’s
vision for providing additional learning opportunities for students.

“One of the things CUSD is doing to prepare for the future
are ‘Virtual Classrooms’ – CUSD teachers are in the process of
designing curriculum for a virtual classroom where students can take
courses on the Web...”
Superintendent
Walt Buster
Report to the Community. September 2000. |
The online courses
are asynchronous (not occurring at the same time).
The content of most of our courses is leased from the Florida
Virtual School. Teachers from Clovis are teaching the online courses as part
of their normal teaching day. The
online course platform we are using is Jones
Knowledge.
The
program began as a summer pilot in July 2001.
Six teachers (three content teachers and three online support
teachers) began teaching online courses in Algebra I, Biology, and
English 9. Beginning in
August 2001, one additional course was added for AP Government and
Economics.
