Lesson 3.05 - The Great War

Your assignment is to read your textbook or visit the following web site and examine the material provided there regarding the First World War.  Focus on reading the parts that specifically address America’s involvement in World War I.

  1. Once you have visited the web site write a response to each of the guiding question from above.  Your response to each question should be at least 2 paragraphs long.  In most cases you will need to write more to adequately cover each question.  You may also refer to chapter 11 in your textbook for additional information.

 Guiding Questions to Answer:

  • What is isolationism?  Do you agree with the idea of isolationism and should countries use this practice?

  • Why did the United States want to stay out of World War I?  Were there economic reasons for staying out?  Which side of the conflict did we think was “in the right”?  Did all Americans agree on this issue? Did the war over there cause any conflicts in America?

  • How did each of the following events combine to bring the United States into “The War to End All Wars?”

  • German Unrestricted Submarine Warfare

  • The sinking of the Lusitanian

  • The Zimmerman Note

B.     Navigate to the Assignments Area and click on “View/Complete Assignment” for “3.05 The Great War”.  Attach your Word document with your answers to the Guiding Questions and click “Submit”.
