3.0 – Module Overview

OBJECTIVE - this lesson will serve as an overview for Module 3.  This will be valuable as a study aid in preparing for your Module Test.

DISCUSSION

An American visionary looks out at the landscape of the United States and wants more!  His desire leads him to declare a war he has no business declaring but his initiative is praised since the ends justified the means.  Later his can do attitude prompts him to lead a group of “soldiers” into HIS war to further guild his cavalier persona.  A COWBOY in the White House?  No, it’s not Ronald Reagan or even George W. Bush!  This Rough Rider stands astride the Panamanian isthmus like Roy Rodgers on Trigger.  At last his hunger is satiated by an event he never lived to see as the first ship makes its madden voyage down the Panama Canal.  Could one man have such a dominant impact on a period of American history?  Only Teddy knows!

The turn of the 20th.century certainly brought significant times and people to America.  Progressive Presidents Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson all impacted America and the world.  Whether it was the treatment of Native Americans during Manifest Destiny or our new developing worldview, civilize and Christianize were part of America's new vision.  The Spanish American War and T.R.'s Big Stick Diplomacy were great examples of America's "Can-do, must-do spirit.  "We needed a two ocean Navy and the Panama Canal was the perfect solution.  So what if we plotted a revolution in Columbia to pull it off. Glory! Taft's Dollar Diplomacy was significant in establishing the United States as  "Big Brother" to the Western Hemisphere.  Glory! President Wilson, an ordained minister, preached Moral Diplomacy after WWI displaying our Judeo-Christian values as part of his vision of America in the world.  God!

Do the times make the man or the man make the times?  One fact is for certain…history is not just about dates and dead people.  History is what we build our future on.  Americas future was shaped by men and times that changed the course of history!

In this module you will discover the contributing factors that allowed the United States to emerge from the 20th Century as a major world power?
