Module 8.08 – American President’s Deal with Civil Rights.

For this assignment you will be creating a PowerPoint detailing how each President of the Civil Rights Era dealt with the growing problem of civil unrest and the push for Civil Rights reform.  You may use your textbook or any other resource you can find for this assignment (just make sure to site all sources on the bibliography slide).

1. President Franklin D. Roosevelt – A. Phillip Randolph
2. Harry S. Truman
3. Dwight D. Eisenhower – Little Rock Crisis
4. John F. Kennedy – Civil Rights Act of 1964
5. Lyndon B. Johnson – Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965

Your PowerPoint should adhere to the following format:

v     Title slide (with name)

v     2 slides per President – containing information regarding civil right activities (good and bad) that occurred during his term.  Also should include any important civil rights legislation or laws that were passed during his time in office.

o       Each President listed above has at least one item that you MUST include in your description.  You will need to incorporate other items/events but this one is a must.

v     Three graphics per President (one should be a picture of the President).  Other graphics could include: political cartoons appropriate to the topic, graphs of information pertaining to civil rights, other pictures of a significant civil rights event that occurred during the President’s term, maps, etc.

v     One quote regarding the President’s attitude or feelings towards Civil Rights.

v     Bibliography Slide

You may use any online resources as well as information from your textbook for this assignment (just make sure to include them in your Bibliography.
