In this course students examine major turning points in the shaping of the modern world, from the late eighteenth century to the present.

 
Module 1 - Lost Civilizations - The Greeks, Romans, and Mesopotamians
Three ancient and “lost civilizations to explore.”   Buried treasure and ancient tombs await you.  Knowledge that the ancients have presumed lost is there for the daring student who has the courage to explore “that which is presumed lost.”

Module 2 - The Transformation of Modern Europe

While the Renaissance is most noted for its beautiful works of art, this period also introduced a number of important inventions that reshaped the world.

Module 3 - Classical Revolutions
This period is often called the Age of Absolutism because many important nations of Europe were ruled by absolute monarchs—kings or queens. whose authority was virtually without limits.

Module 4 - The Industrial Revolution
In the middle of the eighteenth century, Europeans began to substitute machines for human labor on a large scale. This process is known as industrialization, It transformed society to such a degree that historians came to refer to it as a revolution, the Industrial Revolution.

Module 5 - Imperialism
In the late 1600's, Europeans engaged in a great expansionist drive beyond their borders. This movement, called Imperialism, carried Westerners and their civilization—for good and ill—to many parts of the globe, bringing lasting change to the peoples of non-Western cultures. End of Semester
