Module 6.06 The Treaty of Versailles

With the entry of the United States into the war the tide of victory turned.  No longer a stalemate the German army retreated from all of its positions.  One by one the Central powers surrendered until Germany was forced to fight alone and many of its peoples were in revolt to.

World War I came to an end at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.  Some 65 million men had served under arms.  Of that total approximately 10 million had been killed and another 20 million wounded.  Europe was in shambles, and its leaders faced an enormous task.  They arranged to hold a peace conference in Paris in January of 1919 to restructure the world.
